Fred Fieldhouse Story

“I am in complete remission and you can't ask for more than that.”- Fred Fieldhouse

Several months ago, a cracked rib and back pain led me to the doctor. Dr. Jay Thumar called me with a surprise diagnosis, confirming that I had cancer. My thoughts were focused on my future and even the possibility of dying.

I put my trust in Dr. Thumar and agreed with his suggestion of enrolling in a clinical trial at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Saint Francis. The treatments required me to visit Saint Francis six times a month for six months with the hope of extending my remission and reducing the side effects of my treatments.

During this critical time in my life, the entire Saint Francis medical team and volunteers were incredible and made me feel like I was the most important person under their care. They encouraged me to enjoy all the blessings in my life which include my beautiful girlfriend, two children and three grandchildren. My outlook is good so I am looking forward to spending time with them at the Cape, riding my Harley, and yes, even working.

I feel honored to be a part of this trial so that it may help other patients. I hope you will consider joining my family and friends by making a gift to the hospital so they may save more lives and continue their amazing legacy as a high-quality and caring health care provider for every person in our community.
