Barbara Gordon’s 12th annual backyard BBQ was a wonderful success. All attendees enjoyed fabulous BBQ fare cooked by the incredible West Hartford firefighters; line dancing to the country sounds of Dan Gabel and his outstanding band; taking chances on the special drawing gift baskets; bidding on unique silent auction items; or simply sitting back and relaxing as they sipped on a cup of cappuccino by Formal Indulgence. This event raised almost $20,000 for the Karl J. Krapek, Sr. Comprehensive Women’s Health Center, bringing their total support to well over $200,000.
Barbara and her daughter, Tracy, are grateful to Saint Francis for the continued compassion and perseverance the medical and spiritual staff has shown their family over the years. Barbara credits Dr. Allan Mayer and Dr. Jim Frank for saving her life and for also suggesting she needed to do something positive to overcome her survivor’s guilt, as her sister had succumbed to cancer. And so the backyard fundraiser was born.
