2008 Beneficiary: The Stroke Center at Saint Francis

Miralcles 2008

The evening of MIRACLES XIX was one to remember. Over 1,300 guests filled the ballroom at the Connecticut Convention Center on September 20th, for another sell-out crowd. The guests enjoyed the ambiance of the Connecticut Convention Center and the spectacular views of Hartford and the riverfront as the sun was set.

Mayor Perez, Archbishop Mansell, and three former UCONN basketball players, Jennifer Rizzotti, University of Hartford Women’s Basketball Coach, Kevin Ollie, from the 76ers and Ray Allen, from the World Champion, Boston Celtics, joined the festivities.

While the first MIRACLES Gala was held back in 1990, to mark the just-completed affiliation of Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital, today MIRACLES is a symbol of so much more… for MIRACLES has raised more than $10 million in support of Hospital services and community programs. With a new beneficiary designated each year, Saint Francis was pleased to announce this year’s 2008 Beneficiary: The Stroke Center at Saint Francis.

The Stroke Center at Saint Francis was established only one year ago and has quickly established itself as a leading provider of medical care for stroke, which claims more than 1,800 lives each year in Connecticut. The Center has been designated as a Primary Stroke Center by both the Connecticut Department of Public Health and The Joint Commission, the leading accreditation organization for healthcare organizations in the United States. In addition, the Center has received the American Stroke Association’s Get With the GuidelinesSM – Stroke Bronze Performance Achievement Award.

Another highlight of the evening, was when Saint Francis family and friends, honored the Gala’s own co-emcee, Mr. Brad Davis, for 50 years in broadcasting… even his own MIRACLES emcee partner, Irene O’Connor, had a few memories to share. This tribute accompanied with amazing food, great music (courtesy of Landerman Society Orchestra and Yellow Brick Road), dancing, and an exceptional wine auction (hosting more than 100 bottles of wine and several exclusive wine-dinners) made for a perfect evening.

An unforgettable evening, such as MIRACLES XIX, occurred the moment guests walked through the door, and were greeted by President Christopher Dadlez; his wife, Eileen; and ball chairmen Ranjana and Surendra Chawla and Tony and Gail Newman… and even ended with a smash - for one lucky guest walked away with a five night Caribbean Getaway.

Thanks to the sell-out and support of MIRACLES XIX, the Stroke Center at Saint Francis will grow and flourish for many years to come! A sincere thank you goes out to all volunteers, guests, sponsors, Hospital staff and the many others who made this event possible.
